Runway Casting Call Preparation

Landing a spot on the runway is a major career goal for most models, and a successful casting is the key to landing that coveted spot. Whether you're a seasoned model or just starting out, preparation is vital. Here are some tips to help you nail your next runway casting and make a lasting impression on the judges!

Perfect Your Walk

The runway walk is crucial. Focus on maintaining good posture and creating an impactful impression. Working with experienced model coaches is the best way to ensure you're fully prepared.

Research the Show

Before the casting, familiarize yourself with the show you're auditioning for. Research the designers that participate and the overall aesthetic. Understanding the show's vision will help you tailor your walk and align yourself with what the designers are looking for.

Dress the Part

A runway casting call is not the time or place to dress in flashy clothing. Opt for fitted clothing that shows off your silhouette and basic shoes that won't distract from your overall look. The focus should be on you, not your outfit. Nails should be short and be a natural color. Avoid heavy makeup or extravagant hairstyles. If there is a dress code for the casting, follow it!

Be Professional

Be punctual, professional, and prepared.  Know where you're going and where you'll park, and arrive early to avoid any last-minute stress. You will probably run into other models you know, but save the catching-up chatter for when you're both done with the casting call and are out of the casting space so you're not distracting others trying to audition.

Take Direction

Be open to feedback and take direction with grace. They will have specific things they want you to do during the casting process, like your runway walk, photos, and measurements. Pay attention to the order in which they want things done and where you need to go to do them. Casting directors might provide suggestions or adjustments during your walk. Show that you can adapt and take constructive criticism positively. Flexibility and willingness to adjust are valuable traits.

Stay Confident

Being confident draws attention to you, which is what you want in a room full of other models. The casting directors are looking for models who have a good walk and who can captivate an audience and leave a lasting impression.

Stay Persistent

Not every casting will result in a booking, and that's okay! Use each experience as a learning opportunity. Keep honing your skills and attending castings for the experience. Persistence and resilience are crucial in the modeling industry and always pay off!

Remember, each casting is a step towards your next opportunity. Keep striving, stay confident, and good luck!
